How much does it cost to make a game or serious game?

This question is in the head of many people.

It can vary from a few thousand (k) USD to more than 100k.

It will depend if you want 2D images or 3D images. 3D images are much more time consuming. If you need video edition (expensive), the level of animation, the platform, the volume of content and how you want the backend.

To help you have an idea you will find below a graph I have been setting up:

Finally, the price will also depend of the place where the development takes place. A developer in Spain is cheaper than a developer in France or UK for example.

We usually calculate the rate per man day. According to the type of profile (artist, junior developer, animator, software architect etc.) it may vary from 200USD per day till 800 USD per day. This is for tier1 countries.

The technology to make games is diversified. You can sometimes find development platforms for non-developers but you will fast be limited in what you want to do. For mobile games, the engine most commonly used are Unity3d and Unreal.

As I work in the gaming sector feel free to contact me to receive a free estimate.
